Bus Jam: how to play, and how to clear the jam
Bus Jam is a traffic puzzle. Buses are packed into a car park, each facing a way out. Tap the right buses in the right order so every passenger gets on.
The rules
- Tap a bus and it drives out the way it's facing, but only if nothing is in its path.
- A bus that gets out waits in one of a few parking slots, usually four or five.
- Passengers wait in one queue. The person at the front gets on the first waiting bus of their colour. When a bus is full, it leaves and frees its slot.
- If every slot is filled with buses that nobody at the front of the queue can board, you're stuck and the run ends.
- Board everyone to win. Your score is the time left on the clock, in tenths of a second.
Tips
- Read the front of the queue first. The next few colours tell you which buses you need now.
- Free the bus you need, not just any bus. Before tapping, check that its path is clear, and which buses are blocking it.
- Keep a slot empty. A spare slot is your safety net when the queue changes colour.
- Don't park a colour that won't be needed for a while: it takes a slot until its passengers reach the front.
- Every jam can be solved with only two slots, so if you're stuck with five full, an earlier tap was the problem. Play it again and change the order.
Every jam is new
Each run gets a fresh jam, built backwards from an order that clears it, so it's always solvable. A typical game has 12 to 20 buses in three or four colours, and about five seconds on the clock for each bus, plus twenty.
Score and target
Faster clears score higher. As with every skill game, test players set the target so about 45% of them beat it, and the server replays your taps to check every score.
